Tom Colquhoun, MSW, RSW
Social Worker & Psychotherapist
I believe change rarely comes through shame, pressure, or trying harder alone. Often it begins with understanding what has been carried, what has been protected, and what may be ready to shift.
No two men arrive with the same story. Therapy should reflect that. My approach is tailored to your unique needs and circumstances. It is a process of collaboration and co-creation.Â
Therapy for Men in Toronto  Virtual Across Ontario
Meet Tom
I'm glad you're here. I've spent over 13 years supporting people navigating substance use concerns, mental health challenges, trauma, and periods where life feels hard to hold together. My experience spans hospital settings, community mental health, substance use counselling, corrections, and private practice. Over the years, I kept seeing men show up with similar patterns and experiences. Middle Mile exists because those patterns deserve more than a generic approach. I'm particularly drawn to the pressure many men carry privately: overthinking, compulsive coping, burnout, substance use, emotional disconnection, feeling stuck while appearing functional on the outside. Most of what I know about this comes from sitting across from men like you, for thirteen years.
My Approach
Therapy with me tends to be practical, direct, and depth-oriented. We may work on immediate tools to manage stress, urges, or difficult emotions while also exploring the patterns and ways of coping that developed over time. I think it's important to find some light in the darkness. The work extends beyond symptom reduction. It is about clarity, understanding, and finding new ways to experience yourself and the world around you.
